First test on a computer

  1. Install the app and sign in with the account you used on this website.
  2. Allow microphone access. Select your microphone and check that it receives your voice.
  3. Select the spoken language and one translation language.
  4. Press Start and speak a few sentences. Captions should appear in the app preview.
  5. Enable the caption display and check readability over your presentation or on the connected screen.
  6. Press Stop when you finish the test.

Button names can vary between app versions. Test the same microphone, computer, and screen that you will use at the event.

How do participants receive captions or audio?

In the operator app, enable public caption publishing for the event. Copy the audience link from the Public section and share it with participants. The 5-hour package enables public captions; Day Pass also enables translated audio.

Participants open the event link in a browser and choose from the languages provided by the organiser. To listen, they connect headphones and start playback. They do not need an operator account for a public event link.

How can I broadcast from my phone?

Open the mobile app and sign in to your account. Allow microphone access, select the spoken and translation languages, and start the event. Speak into your phone and share the event link. Participants choose their language in the mobile app or browser. Stop the session when you finish.

How do I display captions in OBS or on another screen?

On the operator computer, add a Browser Source in OBS and paste the local caption URL shown by the app. The default local address is http://127.0.0.1:8876/captions. Compose the captions with your presentation or video, then send that image to the main screen.

A local 127.0.0.1 address works only on the computer running the app. For a separate device, use the event’s public caption link with an eligible package. A caption-only screen can be used alongside the main screen or instead of it.

How do I add captions to a presenter’s own laptop signal?
  1. Connect the presenter’s video output (HDMI, or USB-C with a suitable adapter) to a compatible capture device on the operator’s computer. Add it as a Video Capture Device source in OBS. The presenter continues to control the slides on their own laptop.
  2. Route the stage microphone through the mixer or audio interface to the operator’s computer and select that input in StageSubtitles. The slide image and the microphone audio are separate inputs.
  3. In the same OBS scene, place the StageSubtitles Browser Source above the captured presentation. Send the combined output to the main screen. StageSubtitles runs on the operator’s computer; the presenter only runs the presentation.

A laptop’s HDMI port is usually an output, not an input: a cable between two laptops is not enough. Test the capture device, resolution and caption timing before the event. The optional caption-only screen and audience phone reception can also be used in this setup.

Which languages can I use?

Choose the spoken language and target languages from the current list in the app. You can configure up to five target languages. Participants can select only the languages enabled for that event.

Does it work without internet?

No. Speech processing uses online services. Both the broadcasting device and participants receiving translation online need internet access. If the connection fails, check it and the session status in the app; do not rely on uninterrupted translation during an outage.

How are minutes counted, and what does the trial include?

Time is counted while a live translation session is active. Use Stop in the app to end the session; the account page shows your remaining minutes. The trial includes 20 minutes with full functionality, including local captions, OBS output, and captions and translated audio for participants.

Day Pass contains 600 minutes. For a purchase that will be used across several dates, ask us to confirm the applicable validity period before payment.

I cannot see or hear the translation. What should I check?

Check microphone permission, the selected audio input, internet access, and the session status. Confirm that the spoken and target languages are correct. For audience audio, check the package, selected language, headphones, volume, and playback button.

If the problem continues, contact support with your operating system, app version, and a description of the step that failed.

Technical details: captions, audio, and services

The microphone signal is processed online to produce translated captions. Optional audio is synthesized speech based on translated caption text. It is not the original voice of a simultaneous interpreter.

The service uses DeepL for speech translation, OpenAI for text processing, and ElevenLabs for synthesized audio. OBS can combine the caption output with video. These are independent services and products; StageSubtitles is not affiliated with their owners.

Translation delay depends on the connection, speech, and processing services. Check the timing in your intended setup before the event.

What happens to speech and account data?

Speech, caption text, translations, and optional generated audio are processed to provide the service. Account and usage data support login and billing. Session logging depends on the enabled settings; see the privacy policy for retention and your rights.
